• The mountains allowed less trade from other countries
• The mountains also made it harder to export and import items
• More than 75% of Italy has mountains or hills meaning there is less area to have a farm and grow crops, making there less to sell for the farmer or country
• Being very close to the water did help a lot to get and give items
